Menu Meters <http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/menumeters/> will 
keep a running total of throughput, in both directions. Not sure if it 
will keep information after log out or restart, but right now it tells 
me I have had 1.4 gigs transmitted and received 87 MB since I restarted 
earlier today.
