1) The mailbox list portion of the new Mail window has exactly the same 
content as the current version, so there is no change in "clutter".

2) The solution to slide out drawers that *may* take up too much screen 
real estate is to make the drawer a fixed part of the window that the 
user has no option of closing?

Take another look at the Mail 2 window:

few cosmetic differences, it's virtually unchanged from 1.3.9.
