As soon as I realised I forgot to mention this in my original posting,
I wondered when it would come up - my Powerbook is a current model, so
like yours it does sleep when the lid is closed.

Others will have noticed, however, the tendency that Powerbooks' keys
have to come into contact with the screen, and transfer finger grease
to the display. At certain angles & in certain lights you can clearly
see a regular grid of dirty marks across the lower half of the screen &
near the top another longer single mark from the trackpad-button.

As part of the packing when it arrived my Powerbook was supplied with a
sheet of soft plastic between the keyboard & the screen and I have kept
this and use it nearly all the time to minimise the transfer of dirt
between them. Annoyingly, if I just slip it in there & close the lid,
the plastic often bunches up near the hinge & causes the sheet to fail
to sit properly, so I often have to reopen the lid slightly to
reposition it. I just find it easier to sleep the Powerbook before
putting the sheet in place.

Stroller.
