[X4U] Installing Tiger on an old iMac 233

Hi I¹ve got a friend who¹s got one of the first generation iMacs a 233 with
the CD drive that pops out. He¹s trying to install Tiger but gets an error
that says it cannot be installed for whatever reason. It doesn¹t have
Firewire on it and he¹s trying to install it through an external DVD via
USB. The Tiger disc appears on the desktop and the installer can run but
gives the above error. Does it need to have FW to install Tiger similar to
the Beige G3s needed USB to install Panther? I know you can install Panther
on the Beige G3 with X-Post-Facto I was wondering if there was something
like this going on with iMac 233? Has anyone tried installing Tiger on one
of these iMacs?
