[X4U] Flashing desktop icons and menu bar

Thanks, Brett.

They keep doing it over and over again, very quickly. He is currently  
booting from a second installed HD which has a fresh Tiger  
installation with no problem. When he attempts to switch start up  
drives back to the first he encounters the same flashing problems.
