That's a good question.  Ironically, though I agree with your assessment 
of Norton Utilities, Speed Disk, in my humble opinion, was by far the 
best hard drive defragmentation program available for the Mac.  It's a 
shame that it can't be purchased separately.

iDefrag had some very rough edges when it was first released, but it now 
appears to be the premier hard drive defragmentation utility for the Mac:
