Most applications store their preference files in the User's home directory.
Repair Permissions via Disk Utility doesn't look at any permissions in home
directories. Therefore, running Repair Permissions will never solve a
problem related to permissions regarding application preferences. You will
have to manually inspect the permissions settings and the original poster
ended up taking a useful route by comparing with a separate user.
