I have an ftp site of my own, so I attempted to log in using that
kind of URL with the embedded user and password, and while the
browser (I tried Safari, Mozilla, and Firefox) will go to the site
and show the listing. I can download anything from the site, but when
I drag something from my hard drive to the browser window, it shows
me a listing of the item on my hard drive
("file://Users/myaccountname/folder/filename") but doesn't upload it.

Have you been able to upload to an ftp site using a browser on a Mac? How?
