Please excuse me if this is the second time you've seen the following, but I
could swear I sent this response yesterday. However, there's been no
reference to it on the list, nor can I find my email in the sent items
folder, so here are my reasons why I prefer Firefox:

- Requirement to confirm close when quitting: I¹ve once too often hit
apple/q when meaning just to close a tab in Safari.

- Sessionsaver - if I do quit Firefox (for example to reboot after a
software update), next time I launch Firefox reloads all the tabs I had
open.

- del.icio.us buttons for social bookmarking/tagging.

- Greasemonkey allows me to configure how I view sites, most useful of all
being the Adblocker script with which I can remove most advertising,
particularly irritating animated ones.

- Ability to rearrange tabs.

- Web developer toolbar - excellent CSS configuration tools.

- Scrapbook - allows one to not only save webpages, but rename them,
organise them into folders and even annotate them with highlighting and
comments.

- Page search - I¹ve grown to prefer the extended default capabilities
supplied by Firefox for searching for text within a page e.g. Highlight All,
Match Case, etc.

- Themes - actually I¹m not really bothered about these at all, but the ŒGR
Apple (Brazil)¹ one I use is certainly preferable to Safari¹s brushed metal.

As to the appearance of type, I've never noticed this and can't tell the
difference when doing a side by side test of black Verdana on a white
background. However, I'll keep an eye out for differences as I'm interested
by this observation.

Though it sounds like something better has been suggested, the homepage for
Tab Preview is:
http://ted.mielczarek.org/code/mozilla/tabpreview/

All the best, Colin.
