[X4U] full speed fans after 10.4.9 upgrade

I recently upgraded my wife's computer from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9, and since 
then, when powered on the fans are on continual full speed.  If I do a 
warm reboot after the initial boot, fans operate normally.

Her computer is a dual 2.7 Ghz G5 tower.  Keyboard and mouse are the OEM 
units that shipped with the computer.  No other accessories are attached.
