I don't think that anyone outside of Apple can tell you if that is a  
sure bet.

But apparently the Mac OS X Leopard Developer Preview requires a G4  
as a minimum:

Which certainly would lead one to believe that support for the G3  
will not be available when OS X 10.5 is released.
