[X4U] Security Issue?

I am at OSX and 10.4.11
G5 dual 6G memory

I have this utility called a better finder rename (V7) and it has
worked well for 9 or so months with zero issues.

The (one of the purposes) of this utility it allows fast renaming of
(many) files (and other assorted tasks)

Yesterday it started to choke when I went to rename 10 or so files
with a security message (I do not have correct access).

I look at the files in question with get info and all of them
indicate I have read/write access. Indeed I can manually rename the
files.

I quit the program and restart it and it does not make any difference
I get the same error.

If I reboot however I am able to rename the files to my hearts content.

This is sporadic so I first suspected the application. I then
started having similar issues with other MACINTOSH utilities and
again rebooting seems to "cure" the issue. I am thinking it may be an
OS issue. Again this is sporadic and not really reproducible.

Any ideas, suggestions?
