[X4U] iPhone vs Android for Mac users, and iPhone 5 soon?

How do you all feel about the iPhone or iOS and the Android platform? I would think among Mac users that the iPhone would be the predominate choice. I know one can use a Google account as an intermediary to share between iCal, Address Book and your Android phone, but movies, music, not easy.

My Blackberry has seen its better days and I'm hoping it lasts until September so that I can see if the iPhone gets an update. I live in an area of Kansas where there isn't much for GSM based providers, but I do have good coverage from Verizon and a couple of regional providers. If I stick with Verizon I can get the iPhone, but it'd cost me roughly $100-110 per month for the plan I want, or if I can settle for an Android based smartphone, I can save about $35 a month or so with the regional carriers that work good for where I live and travel. All of the plans I've looked at and the prices I'm quoting include tethering/mobile wifi hotspot - so either way, if I happen to have my iPad or MacBook, they can get onto the Internet through my smartphone too. Of course, for convenience, I often only have room/need for just the smartphone.

If you were in my shoes, would the iPhone be worth the extra $400 per year? Too bad the other regional carriers can't get the iPhone, I wouldn't need to be asking you all your opinion, I'd already have the iPhone.

Joe
