I got around the OS X it ships with thing once with a couple of G4 Mac Minis. At the time, Tiger was the currently-shipping OS, and I wanted to run Panther. Probably some app I needed. Anyhoo, I installed Panther onto an external drive, and the G4 Mini booted to it no problem. This might be the way for you, too. cat
