Your Mac will be slower initially as Spotlight rebuilds its database.

You should also do all of the ordinary routine maintenance; which often makes a big difference:

Uninstall the copy of Flash that you have installed with this uninstaller (Adobe recommends doing this first):

or

Then download the latest version of Flash directly from Adobe, and install it:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Go to System Preferences (accessible in the Apple menu, or in your Dock).
Choose Accounts.
Choose the Login Items tab.
Try disabling anything there.  (You may have stay-resident software that is incompatible with Mavericks and which needs to be updated.)
