Possibly, but I prefer to control what happens myself.

And he didn’t mention Migration Assistant. So I assumed he wanted to do a clean setup of the new machine, rather than bring over all the cruft from the older machine.

The cleanest way is simply to connect the HDD via USB and then pull the 2 folders (Music & Pictures) over to the new machine.

You could try connecting via Target Disk Mode, I think that would also work, but I’ve never tried it.
