Problem with a CD

A friend has sent me a CD with an audio file that has the extension 
.cda. I can't get it to play. This is the first time I've ever had 
trouble playing a CD.

I have an 800 MHz iBook.

Any suggestions? It's important because I need to transcribe the file 
right away.
