HPdeskjet 5550

Hi all,
I have had my tangerine ibook since 2000 and never had any major problems... 
until now. I am working between my desktop PC (at work) and ibook (home) and 
had no problems switching the peripherals etc. but i recently bought a HP 
deskjet 5550 for my PC... then one day (as one would expect) i ran out of 
ink... i replaced the cartridge... the same time my hard disk went 6ft 
under. so i had to install the printer to work with my ibook. I kept getting 
error messages, as my ink level couldnt be detected... i retested the 
printer with a diff PC (i brought it back to shop, thinking that they had 
sold me a defected printer), nope... it printed ok. This leave me with my 
ibook and my brand new HP printer........ waaaarggggggh, here am i thinking 
of saving the trees, but in actual fact, i cant live without any 
printers.... HELP!
