By default, on my iBook at least, cron runs the daily script at 3:15am
each day, the weekly script at 4:30am every Saturday, and the monthly
script on the first day of each month at 5:30am.

Check out the man pages for specifics on what each script runs
man cron
man crontab

The files and scripts are at:
/etc/crontab
/etc/daily
/etc/weekly
/etc/monthly

Or do a google search on any of the above commands and files and you'll
get lots of detail.

Finally, you can forget all this and use a 3rd party utility like those
that Brian recommended, if you prefer (Cocktail or MacJanitor).
