Just a thought, have you considered using Bbedit lite or full version
instead? (although lite is no longer active it may be still available for
download) or even have a look at emacs or Xemacs for a friendlier
interface...while vi is available on every *nix variation and it does pay to
know the basics in this editor...it seems rather like torture to use it
exclusively (IMHO). The others are just as good for the purpose and may
provide a better interface...try them out...

You say this like it was a bad thing! Getting to know emacs can keep you
occupied for a good long time as well ;-)

BTW, emacs is installed as part of OS X and can be started by typing 'emacs'
in terminal
