WiFi access...question...

I had a friend here last weekend with a Dell with wireless card 
(internal) and she couldn't access my Base Station but now and 
then...we called my ISP to try to fix it since my daugter in law does 
it regularly, but they couldn't help.  I have a first generation 
Airport but as my daughter can do it with her wireless connection that 
she uses at home...it doesn't make sense to me.

Can anyone tell me why?

Also, my Daughter in law has much more range than I do...odd?
