You ship them the machine and they will upgrade it for you. They say they
will upgrade the harddrive for no extra charge (parts excluded) so if you
could send them a 5400 or 7200rpm drive at the same time and have them
upgrade it at the same time I would highly recommend it.

I do not recommend you do the upgrade yourself, but if you really want to, I
am fairly certain this will be the same drive:

What I did for my iBook was buy an NEC 2500A drive and a firewire case,
total cost ~$130, and I can burn DVD's from Apple iApps with a small hack.

Does anyone know about upgrading the internal combo drive in an ibook
to a DVD-RW? Are upgrade kits available? Is it likely that they might
be one day?

My model is 12" G4/800
