I love the PPC6400 and 6500 series.... had one for years and years.   
Equip that puppy with the Apple TV Tuner / Video card (revision D of  
course) and an FM radio receiver, and you got yourself a really decent  
multimedia system.  Throw in an ADB MIDI interface and you can do great  
music editing as well.

If you startup with the C key pressed down and the OS 8.5 CD in the  
drive, you will boot off of the CD.  At that point you can run the  
utility Disk First Aid and format the internal hard drive.

The 6400 will run well on system 8.5.1.  When you push it beyond that  
you start getting into hacks and non-standard installs that can get you  
some more forwards compatibility, but at the cost of stability.
