[iBook] Silly question, possibly OT

In the Finder window of my wife's iBook, all her folder icons are
faint, or slightly greyed out or something.  As far as I can tell it
has no effect on her usage of the computer, it just looks weird.

I don't know if this is related, but when I Get Info on any file on
her computer, she (owner) has Read and Write permissions, but both
Group and Other have No Access.

Isn't this a bit strange?
