[iBook] airport extreme card

The airport extreme card in my ibook g4 is causing freezes.
what i have done, (most of this was before i found out it was the 
airport card that is causing it)


new hdd , new ram, complete system reinstall, Then i found the card was 
the problem,

so i updated the software and have to turn off the card when  i am not 
using it.

as i can use it this way all i want to know?
  does anyone else have this problem ?
is there some way round it?
and i know it was asked but what usb airport/wireless plugs will work 
with 10.3.9.
