[iBook] OPtical drive - no permission to burn disk image

I've successfully replaced the internal optical drive in my 14" ibook  
(runinng latest mac os x) with a new apple optical drive.  It's  
working fine for all functions with one exception - I can't burn a  
disk image - I get the message that I don't have permissions.  I'm  
not sure where to fix this - any help is appreciated!!
