Album artwork wont save

I got one for the experts.

While trying to add artwork to songs, I noticed when control "I"
clicking on songs in the list,
The Artwork tag is grey'd out on some titles and and not on others.

if the Artwork tab is blue, the artwork stays.
if it's grey'd out and a file is dragged to the "drag Album" window,
the artwork disappears after the song is deselected.

Any ideas?
