I have had similar problems with a FW Disk. I was using CC Cloner, so I am
just assuming you did, and using OSX. There appear to be some symbolic links
between the iPod and the Powerbook. I'll bet you can not dismount the iPod.
Try shutting down, disconnect the iPod, restart the PB. Reconnect the iPod,
you should be able to erase it.
