apparently, this is a bug caused by messed up permissions or other jag-related things like cron-scripts not removed. etc. try disk utility first help and repair permissions. this is often helpful in other situations with wrong behaviour of programs. also try the superb utility "cocktail" - as found on http://www.versiontracker.com a handy tool to keep the cat calm. sun from me.
