cool.  sounds like your printer is discontinued, and there are no mac 
drivers for it.  here's what i would do if you absolutely don't want to 
buy another printer.

try the opensource gimp-print drivers, and get some sort of print 
server with parallel ports on it - this way you take care of the legacy 
port issue, AND you can more easily share out your printer to other 
computers in the house.  although, sharing with cups ain't too bad.
