[Cube] Cube/iPod 4th Gen HELP!

Dear Listers,

I recently bought a precious 4th Gen iPod to use with my Cube as a hard disk, rather than just 'another' mp3 player.
Connecting it to my Cube when in Mac OS 10.3.5 is not a problem... iTunes v4.6 recognize it and the iPod icon appears on the desktop. Unfortunately, when in Mac OS 9.2.2, iTunes v2.0.4 doesn't even know anymore what an iPod is. This is not a problem, but I really want/need to use it as an external hdd.

Any good soul knows of a cure or trick!?
