Duo 280c Screen "Whiteout"

Yikes!!

My trusty 280C's screen has just gone completely blanc / white - 
although the system is still running OK, albeit invisibly.  I 
restarted a few times and the same thing happens a few seconds into 
startup - horizontal lines appear - then everything fades away to 
white!!!

I suppose this means something has failed.  Anyone have any ideas?
