Hello George, I had this happen to me twice: once with my wife´s 1400c. That proved to be an unruly screen connector cable. I closed and opened the lid a few times, which seemed to be enough. If it happens again - I guess I'll have to reseat the ribbon cable properly. But then I also had a 2300c with a completely white/grey screen (perfectly lit though - and the innards appearing to function normally as well). Someone hinted at that the inverter board (right hand side of the screen) needed to be replaced. I sold the machine and kept the peripherals - knowing that they will come cheaper (and possibly with the RAM maxed out) soon enough. My tip would be to open and close the lid a few times. If that doesn´t work: consider looking inside or selling.
