Thanks for the lead. It was a parallel printer. I checked the "socal"
website. Symptoms described match my situation. Will continue with search
for local Toronto, Canada technician with a specialty in sensitive
soldering. Any recommendations
Ontario readers.

Was it a parallel printer?  If so, more than likely F1 on the main logic
board is blown.  That fix can be done with as little as only a keyboard
removel.  Instructions to check and repair are here:
