At 11:46 AM 9/9/2003, Peter Goertzen, had this to say : >Despite the happy ending, this latest adventure with >my hard drive got me thinking about backing up my >files. Zip drive? Is >there a CD burner available for my machine? > >Peter Hi there, The most important thing to remember about backups is you need more than 1. I recommend using a CD-R/W, some sort of tape drive, some form of removable media like a SyQuest drive, network file sharing, FTP and even floppies (yes I recommend all of these). Be sure to store each copy in different safe (safe from disaster and tampering) and secure (secure from tampering and theft) locations. This may seem extreme, but how valuable is your data? Can the applications be easily replaced? How quickly can you recover the files? How much money and time will you lose without your data? Also, when dealing with SCSI devices, be sure you have the drivers easily accessible (eg : on floppy). Without these, your new/used device is useless. Even us "specialists" forget sometimes, that Macs only read from "Apple ROM" CD drives. :$ To recap, yes you can use just about any external SCSI device as long as you have the drivers for it.
