What has worked for me is taking all of the USB and Firewire 
extensions from a 9.2.2 install (an a USB and Firewire equipped 
machine) and dropping them into my system folder. It works all the 
way back to 8.6.

Similarly, you can use Tomeviewer to extract all of the extensions 
from the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 updaters and use them as well.
