Oddly enough, my wife recently criticized me for
referring to something as "Oriental" and said I should
say "Asian" !! Back in the 60's we used to say
"Oriental". Personally, I hope people are not too
offended by either word, as long as the person who
used the word was not aware of a specific nationality
or heritage, or was using the word to refer to a group
consisting of several heritage's(??). In Alex's case
he probably wasn't aware that it was Japanese.
