Josh - That didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though. BUT, I think I had misdiagnosed the problem. It seems the computer IS booting up, but that the display isn't working. I've set the computer to give me witty error messages in the "O.K. Computer" voice (e.g. "Get back to work, you lazy bastard") and when I accidentally pulled out the power cord after it had attempted to boot up, the computer gave me one of those error messages. That means it's got to be starting up, right? So, does this mean it's a display problem? The screen is backlit but all grey. Is that what happens when they break? And I'll definitely give you the computer if I can't fix it. Do you live in NYC, by any chance? If not, I'll have to ask you to cover the shipping.
