Could this be the problem: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/26b3e.htm

Adobe has a pretty good Support KnowledgeBase. If the above isn't your
problem, maybe you can find a solution to your problem there.

Subject: [G4] Acrobat/Illustrator conflict

Recently developed an apparent conflict with Illustrator v9.0 Message comes
up "Acrobat PDF file format is having difficulties. The file may be
damaged." After hitting the " OK " I lose ALL tool boxes and floating
pallets. Switching from Illustrator to another program , then back sometimes
brings the pallets back , but not always. Also I've put the computer to
sleep ? by using the Illustrator Key command to convert text to outline (
Apple, Shift, O ) Paul McMillan tshirt at sympatico.ca
