Diane, There are two options. You can get a system like the USB InterView analog-to-USB video that captures in a format that QuickTime must convert to DV before you can edit it in iMovie, or you can get something like the Dazzle Hollywood analog-to-DV bridge that will directly convert to DV so that iMovie can use it directly. The analog-to-DV products are more expensive, but provide better quality and save several conversion steps and hassle. Another option is to get a DV camcorder that has analog-to-DV conversion built in. That is the most expensive option, but the one that I took, because it reduces the hassle of either sets of conversion steps for any video I take in the future, plus allows me to convert all my old home movies. One last option is Sony's Digital8 camcorder, that will play your Hi-8 tapes and also will record DV on 8mm tapes as well (they might do analog-to-DV conversion, but I'm not sure). Like many Sony technologies, they are the only ones that support that format, so the future of that is not as sure as the Mini DV format that most other cameras use. I looked at all these choices earlier this year. If you need more info you can mail me off list.
