Assembling a USB Drive

On an impulse last night I bought on eBay a USB enclosure that is sized 
to hold 2.5" IDE harddrives. These drives of course are the size one 
uses in a Powerbook.  I want to use it for portable back up and file 
transfer via some new USB 2.0 ports I've added to my G4-400 desktop  
system.

Is it safe to assume that any drive that gets good marks on 
xlr8yourmac.com for use in a Powerbook (like an IBM Travelstar) will 
operate satisfactorily in a USB enclosure?
