Steve, Bingo! You hit the nail right on the head. I opened the Disk Utility and dismounted (un-mounted or whatever) two of the three hard drives in this G4. Then tried the Get Info and 'Open with' thing and it worked perfect. I have three hard drives in this machine and that was the problem.
