Why not just use the Setup Assistant app that comes with every (most) new Macs that are sold. All that is involved is setting up the old computer as a firewire drive and it transfers EVERYTHING! Look for Setup Assistant in Applications/Utilities. You also don't have to worry about your 10 steps. Give it a try.
