FYI. I just resurrected an old 1999 B&W PowerMac G3 running @ 500 MHz next to my new dual 2.5 (liquid cooled) PowerMac G5 I got last week at Fry's new for $1999. When I put the G3 to "sleep" nothing shuts the fan down. It keeps whirring away at a fixed speed that is very white noisy - not obnoxious, but nonetheless seriously loud white. Next to it is the G5 making almost no noise when active other than an occasional fan acceleration sound and always running fans at variable speeds and when you put it to sleep it goes totally silent with no fans running at all. In my opinion, overall, the liquid cooled G5 runs way more silent than the old B&W G3. I think Apple is continuing to improve how quiet their computers run. k On Jun 10, 2005, at 5:59 AM, Freeman, Colt wrote: > Buy that G5 Powermac, I've got a brand new dual 2.3 so I'm running > with twice the heat you would and I've had no problems at all.
