[HM] MSN Messenger problems

Now that my number one child is away at university, I have tried to get 
MSN Messenger working on our family computers.  It works fine on my 
daughter's blue iBook (running System 9.2.2), but I cannot get it 
working on my G4 Cube (running OS X 10.3.8).

I try to sign in but it almost instantaneously says there is no 
connectivity.  I suspect it is somehow looking for modem connectivity, 
and is failing to recognise the broadband connection that is shared 
over the home LAN.

Are any of you aware of settings I need to tweak? I am sure I am 
missing something simple (other than a Microsoft revenge).
