I had a similar problem recently, and it was solved by downloading a newer version of MSN Messenger. I was running 3.0 I think and I downloaded 3.5. It connected without problem , but the first time I ran it, it told me that there is a later version for Macs, 4 something. Both 3.5 and the 4 version worked.
