Camcorder advise

A couple of questions about selecting a camcorder.  I have been 
considering the Sony TRV140 since I would like to keep the price down 
around $350.

1. Does this unit have Macrovision when used as a DV bridge? None of 
the salespeople can answer this type of question. I would like to 
convert some commercial VHS tapes to DVD format for longevity and 
convenience.

2. What about the Digital8 format vs miniDV? The tapes seem to be about 
1/2 the price and the same length, so it seemed like a good idea based 
on that.
