I don't see the 970 and panther as fundamentally changing the way Macs work. If anything it's an elegant evolution that will not require new application software to work — only new software to work fastest. Perhaps there will sometimes need to be Panther compatible updates for certain software to work at all. But generally I think what we have now will work with Panther. This is of course just idle speculation on my part. But from what I've read of Panther and the 970 processor so far, I would expect this to be the case.
