I have had an ATR55 for a couple of years now and it is very useful for 
outdoor use when you want to isolate dialogue from background noise. 
Not perfect but much better than the built in mic(s).
Yes it has a 2 pos switch that changes from wide angle to shot gun, I 
used mine on 'shot gun' most of the times I have used it.

Mine was a mono mic, but I hacked the plug off and rewired it for dual 
line input, the 25 appears to be stereo so it should provide better 
results.
