What's a good size for a scratch disc? 40, 50 gig? Repeat. DO NOT separate your OS and apps -- keep those on one big happy partition. It really is better to keep those together in OS X. If you must partition your main drive, just split it in two -- 80 GB for OS and apps TOGETHER, and 80 GB for media/scratch. And keep the second drive as one big happy partition. There really is no need to partition it if it's just going to hold your video and audio media. - Mark F.
